Argos was founded in 1973 and is now part of the Home Retail Group, following a demerger in October 2006 from its parent company, GUS plc. Argos is now one of the UK's most successful and respected retailers in the UK today and the most popular for toys, small electrical appliances and housewares. Argos has sales of over £4 billion per annum and employs over 34,000 people. It is believed that around two thirds of UK households (around 17 million) have an Argos catalogue at home. Argos serves over 130 million customers a year in its stores and takes four million orders either over the phone via the website which is the second most visited internet retail site in the UK.
